ACA capital allowance - SEI Sustainable Energy Ireland
ACA capital allowance is a new initiative which has been introduced by the government in Ireland. This allows businesses to qualify for up to 12.5% of their investment to be returned via the corporation tax by the local government when spent on energy saving equipment. The scheme acts as an incentive for people to join the increasing sector of ‘green’ business. Mode Lighting is proud to announce that all of it’s lighting control products are now part of this scheme and are helping fight the battle on carbon pollution.
How the ACA works
The ACA lets you cut your company’s taxable income by 100% of the capital cost of eligible energy-efficient equipment in the first year of purchase. This compares to just 12.5% for ineligible plant and machinery.
Is your company eligible?
For definitive information, please contact the Irish Revenue Commissioners. However, the details in the Finance Act have been summarised into a set of guidelines for eligibility. The minimum requirements are that you fulfil all the following criteria:
1. Be a company operating in Ireland
2. Pay Irish corporation tax
3. The equipment purchased is new
4. The equipment was bought on or after 31 January 2008
5. The equipment was purchased during the accounting period of the company provided that it was on the specified list at the end of the accounting period or, if not, was on the list at the time the purchase was made
6. The equipment was bought for use in a trade
7. The equipment is not leased, let or hired to any person
8. Expenditure on a class of technology must, at the end of the accounting period, be equal to or exceed the minimum amounts for each class of technology as set out in the legislation:
Building Energy Management Systems: €5,000
Lighting and Lighting Controls: €3,000
Motors and Variable Speed Drives: €1,000
* This scheme is not open to any non-profit-earning organisations, e.g. charities and government organisations. Nor is it open to sole traders or partnerships.
