About Nathalie McGloin – Nathalie is the only female tetraplegic in the world to be racing cars, racing in the Porsche Club Championship. This is top-level club racing and is a highly competitive series, Nathalie races a Porsche Cayman S on slicks in class one. Her championship includes seven race meets with two races per weekend. Nathalie’s car – Nathalie drives an adapted Porsche 987 Cayman S.
The vehicle is fitted with radial hand controls that she pushes forward to brake, and down to accelerate. This system allows her to mix the accelerator and throttle for greater car control. The hand controls are mounted to the right of the steering column, leaving her left hand free to steer.
Because Nathalie has no sensation or movement in her lower body, she can’t feel the car through the base of the seat like able-bodied drivers do. To compensate for this, her car has a Cobra seat with an Indi Seats Scroth Racing moulded insert that is shaped to the contours of her ribcage. This gives Nathalie added stability and also allows her to feel what the car is doing underneath her. She drives the car in automatic mode, allowing the PDK system to change gears.

Nathalie on Mode Lighting – “I first became aware of the company when I started renovating my house in 2017. I needed a lighting solution that would work for me as a wheelchair user and the Mode system seemed the perfect choice.
It turned out that Andrew Morris, MD of Mode Lighting, was a massive petrol head and had been following my racing on Twitter. After a brief conversation, we knew that there was potential to work together and I also knew that the system would be perfect for my new home.
After a meeting with Andrew in early January, we secured a sponsorship deal for this season and I can’t wait to start racing with my first new sponsor of 2018. I’m getting a new wrap on my car this season and the Mode Lighting logo is going to look great on my Cayman!
